                                          To locate the resources that the CHS library has which are available to you, click on the graphic "Fee Based Databases" on the center of the Library Homepage at www.chslib.com

If you are accessing this from outside of the school you must click on the clink     http://www.bcps.org/offices/lis/feebased/index.html  and use the correct username and password.

1. Click on "Literature Resource Center"
2. At school click on Proceed.  From home type in username "bcps"and password  "bigchalk"
3. Click top link

4. Make a choice
5. To locate where information is located in print sources in our library:  

Click on tab -1. Gale Literary Criticism on the far right.  2. Click on Title. 3. Then type in the name of the title of the book. 4. Click on the radio button "All words entered".    5. Click the green search button. 6. A list will appear click on the link that represents your title.


6. Print out this page- its a virtual shopping list. Check your list against the Literary Criticism Resources we have at CHS. The county library has many of the sources that we don't.

 

To Get On Line Sources

1. Instead of clicking on the "Gale Literary Index "tab, just type in your title .   

2. Choose the correct link.

3. Click on the tab " Literary Criticism, Articles and Work Overviews"

2. You will then find a number critical essays on the screen that deal with either your book or author. Click the links to view the articles.

 

Use the following model to cite the on line sources:

The elements of the citation are

Author’s Last name, Author’s first name. “Article title”, Publication name, Publication Date: Page Number/Range. Database name. Service name. Name of library where accessed. Name of city where  accessed. Date of access. <URL of the service.

                Novels For Students

 This is located in our Reference Section on top of shelves. This is an excellent resource . It analyses selected books in terms of author's biography, chapter summaries and themes as well as much more. Each selection also contains several literary criticisms about the book. Use the index in any volume to see if your title is in one of the volumes of this work.
